We are pleased to announce the publication of a new volume titled „Mobility Dynamics between Eastern Europe and the Near East: Exploring a Cross-Regional Shared History“ (Franz Steiner Verlag, 2024). This work explores historical interconnections between Eastern Europe and the Near East, primarily focusing on the early modern period through the 21st century.

The volume was co-edited by Prof. Dr. Julia Obertreis (1969–2023), the head of the Chair of Modern and Eastern European History at FAU, along with Albrecht Fuess, Heidi Hein-Kircher, and Stefan Rohdewald. The volume is based on a conference organized by the Association of Eastern European Historians in Germany and the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe.

The book includes a contribution by Philipp Winkler, a researcher of the chair. His article is entitled „Arab Visitors‘ Accounts of the Socialist Experiment: How Arab Travelers Saw the Soviet Union in the Post-Stalinist 1950s.“

The volume contains articles in English and German and is available in both print and e-book formats.
