Iuliia Iashchenko: "The Cost of Life: Female Experience of Ethnic Cleansings under Stalinism in Central Asia"
Dear colleagues,
We invite you to the Seminar series “Digital History in/of Central Asia”, organised the Chair of Modern and Eastern European History, Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg in collaboration with the German Association for East European Studies (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Osteuropakunde, DGO)
The fifth seminar will be held on April 4, 14:15 CEST (14:15 Berlin / 17:15 Almaty & Tashkent / 18:15 Bishkek) online in Zoom and onsite: Erlangen, Bismarckstr. 12.
Topic: The Cost of Life: Female Experience of Ethnic Cleansings under Stalinism in Central Asia.
Presenter: Iuliia Iashchenko, visiting researcher at the Chair of Modern and Eastern European History FAU; Ph.D. candidate in European History at La Sapienza University of Rome; researcher at the CEMAS Research Center of Sapienza. She focuses on Transitional Justice in post-communist countries, particularly examining the collective memory of ethnic cleansing in the USSR and Soviet-occupied nations in Europe from the 1930s to the 1980s.
The seminar delves into the often-overlooked narratives of women affected by ethnic cleansings during the Stalinist era in Central Asia. Through a gendered lens, it examines the unique challenges, traumas, and resilience displayed by women in the face of forced migration, violence, and loss. By highlighting these experiences, the anticipated discussion aims to enrich our understanding of the broader impact of ethnic cleansings and provide a platform for marginalized voices in historical discourse.
Language: English.
Questions: Dinara Gagarina (dinara.gagarina@fau.de).
